Umphrey’s McGee entered I.V. Labs Studio in Chicago in November of 2016 to record what would become the band’s eleventh full-length studio album. The result was, it’s not us, the most vibrant, mature expression of the band’s growing studio prowess to date. “We decided to go in for a week, live, eat, and breathe Umphrey’s McGee,” recalls Joel, “we’re known as a strong live band, but we take so much pride in our writing. [In this album] the focus is on that writing.”
The first single “The Silent Type” is powered by a bombastic beat, funkified rhythms, fiery fretwork, and a chantable refrain, introducing it’s not us with a bright and brilliant bang. “Half Delayed” builds from airy guitar into an iridescent refrain, meanwhile, the bass strut anthemic beat production and percussive wallop of “Looks” could be the love child of Nine Inch Nails and Talking Heads. The metallic shredfest outro of “Remind Me” bleeds effortlessly into the gorgeous acoustic love song “You & You Alone.”
The album is Umphrey’s McGee at its peak prowess, creating music with both precision and emotional content 20 years into a career. it’s not usis an expression about it being bigger than individuals, it really isn’t about them – but all of us.

Honestly, this package blew me away. Very happy with the purchase. Only complaint was how hard it was to get the secret vinyl out when i found it. Worth it though

Not only is this release a musical masterpiece, but the deluxe packaging's attention to detail and craftsmanship is a work of art on its own. What a perfect synergy of the senses. From a hidden single begging to be discovered, to AR, top notch photography, graphic design and packaging of the highest quality. This thing has some physical heft, which matches just how heavy this band delivers night after night. This is every Umphreak's ultimate reward for following this band with undying dedication wearing their hearts proudly on their sleeves. Thank you!

I was so excited to receive my "it's not us" deluxe box! I had just seen the big reveal on Facebook and was more than stoked to check it out for myself. It was very neatly packaged. Upon unwrapping, I was so glad to touch the quality casing which encloses all of the products in one set: the metallic logos pop and overall has such a nice feeling to it! The first thing I took out was the record player cover, enclosed in decorative case. I loved the two patterns: one very psychedelic, one more classy. Next, I went for the vinyl record. This is actually my first (own) vinyl, so it felt pretty incredible checking out the details on the label and seeing the grooves, careful not to touch them. The AR logo was a very nice touch! After that, I went straight for the back of the book, knowing their was a blue disc hidden inside! I read Bayliss' intro, flipped through each picture, looking for sets I recognized and even found myself inside (on the rail at Scamp!). I identified each of Tara Gracer's and Dave Levene's photos and read Stasik's short story about collabing after hours as well. While I had gotten a copy of the album on CD at the Release Party, I admired the typewriter detailing on the album included with the book. Overall, this set is such a wonderful treasure of Umph Love and totally worth it! <3 \mm/
